What was my inspiration, you ask? I was inspired by my biggest inspiration, my life’s inspiration. From the womb a fetus starts its very first bond with its mother. After birth that bond is like no other. For me, my mother was my everything. She inspired me, encouraged me, and loved me unconditionally. 

 

    She was a woman with high regards, who made everyone feel so special, as if they were the only other person on the planet. She was so good at giving her love that even in a group setting, every individual still felt like only they were hers and no one else existed. No need for a competition! She was a giver, a cheerleader, a coach, a friend, a sister, a mother, a wife, a shoulder, an ear, and so much more. But most importantly, she was mine!

    In 2019, at the young age of 61 (a very young 61) my mother was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Confused… was my family’s new word. We fought this fight together for 9 months before she gracefully departed in her home with her family around, just as she wanted. Throughout those 9 months, amid Covid 19, we struggled trying to get her the care she needed. Even with insurance, we had to fight for them to cover her treatments and medications. Needless to say, they never did. But because of the woman she was throughout her life and the seeds she planted into others, so many people were willing to do whatever they could to help. Even while she was fighting her fight against cancer, she never complained or asked, “why me?” But she continued to show concern about others over herself.

    Sometime after losing my mother, I wanted to do something in honor of her. I wanted to carry out her legacy and be a vessel and let the work she started continue to live on. I also wanted a way to show thanks and appreciation to all those who were a blessing to my mother and my family during that time. So, because of this story ‘One Thing Less’ was created!
